The Waste Trade Company recently had the pleasure of hosting learners and educators from Kwezi Lesizwe Primary School in Fort Beaufort, Eastern Cape. The visit formed part of the school’s environmental education efforts and provided learners with valuable insight into the recycling process and the broader importance of sustainable waste management.

Educational Experience

During the tour, learners observed each stage of the recycling process, beginning with the arrival of recyclable materials at our facility. They were shown how items are weighed, sorted, and prepared for further processing. Particular emphasis was placed on the importance of waste separation at source, highlighting how correctly sorted recyclables increase efficiency and overall value in the recycling chain.

Opportunities for Schools

The Waste Trade Company also introduced the learners to the concept of establishing eco-clubs or recycling prefects within schools. These learner-driven initiatives encourage responsibility and environmental stewardship, while enabling schools to generate fundraising opportunities. By collecting and sorting recyclables before delivery, schools are able to earn financial rebates for their efforts. This initiative not only promotes cleaner and healthier school environments but also empowers learners to take an active role in combating pollution.
