This Heritage Day, Aluthando Luvuyo Special School reminded us that culture and sustainability go hand in hand.
When we visited the school this morning to drop off recycling bags, we were welcomed by the beautiful sight of learners dressed in vibrant Xhosa traditional attire, proudly celebrating their heritage. The atmosphere was filled with pride, laughter, and community spirit.
But what made the day even more meaningful was that, in the middle of their Heritage Day celebrations, the learners were actively engaged in sorting their recycling. Under the guidance of Sir Bradley, the school’s recycling coordinator, students carefully separated materials, reinforcing the importance of responsible waste management.
At TWTC, we believe that recycling is not just about waste—it’s about building habits that protect the environment and empower communities. What we saw at Aluthando Luvuyo Special School reflects exactly that: a new generation taking pride in their culture while also embracing sustainability.
Why This Matters
Heritage and Environment: The learners showed that protecting our environment is a part of caring for our shared heritage.
Practical Learning: By sorting recyclables, students are gaining valuable knowledge about sustainability and how it benefits their community.
Leadership in Action: Thanks to dedicated staff like Sir Bradley, recycling is not just a school project, but a way of life being instilled in young minds.
A Shared Responsibility
Celebrations like Heritage Day give us the opportunity to reflect on where we come from. Pairing it with recycling initiatives also helps us look forward—to a cleaner, greener future.
We are proud to support schools like Aluthando Luvuyo Special School that are not only celebrating culture but also making a tangible impact in protecting our environment.
Together, we can honor our traditions while building a sustainable tomorrow.
