Masifunde Waste Walk
August 13, 2013 | BY Vicky du ToitSchool Holidays are not an excuse to laze around for this enthusiastic bunch! Loads of fun it was to roam the streets of Walmer Township, along with the folks from Masifunde Learner Development. The “Go Green” Bus from the Municipality made an appearance and bags and gloves were sponsored for the children to clean up their immediate environment.
With the help of some music, 40 learners from Masifunde hit the streets to fetch more children from their homes to clean up the streets. Round two consisted of all the children putting on gloves and grabbing a rubbish bag to clean up.
The positive energy amongst the group was absolutely contagious. The children did a very good job and a lot of rubbish was collected from the streets in Walmer Township.
After the cleanup we had a muffin and some juice, and I did a presentation for them about recycling.
Some lovely artwork made by the children was put on display for the remainder of the day.
