Paper and Cardboard:
The Waste Trade Company is the biggest paper and cardboard recycler for Mondi Mills in the Eastern Cape. Currently we do approximately 800 tons of recycling per month, which we transport via Superlinks to the various Mondi Depots in Gauteng and KZN. 30% of our recyclable products come from the Motor industry;  15% from the Private Sector and the rest from Schools and Households.   At our Depot in Deal Party we sort these products into the various grades and compact the product into bales before we send it to the various Mondi Depots. Daily products get shipped into the Mill for production.

What happens to all the products that we recycle?
All the white office paper that we recycle goes to the Mondi Mill at Springs in Gauteng where it get pulped and made into new grey board. Grey Board is the board that is used by Manufacturers to produce boxes for household goods, for example cereal boxes. Newspapers and magazines are pulped and new sheets of paper is produced for Printers around the Country. The cardboard that we collect is currently sent to the Mondi Mill in Richard Bay, where they manufacture fluty, which is the middle part of a cardboard layer.

Glass:
The Waste Trade Company is the sole agent for Nampak Glass in the Eastern Cape. We recycle approximately 20 tons of glass bottles from the Private Sector and another 70 tons from the Producer Industry (Coke Cola and Parmalat). The glass is culled by The Waste Trade Co.
into 1m³ bags, which is then transported via Superlinks to the Nampak Recycling plant at Roodekop, Johannesburg.  At Nampak Glass Recycling, it goes through the the recyclig process of crash; wash; dry and is then melted back into bottles. Nampak Glass is the sole supplier of bottles to Coca Cola and SAB in South Africa.

Rubber
The Waste Trade Company, in conjunction with the tyre industry and local manufacturers, recycles scrap tyres in the form of tyre derived fuel (TDF) and rubber crumb.  Research and development as well as partnering community, commerce and industry with each other have contributed to the success of finding waste solutions.

TetraPak (Milk and Juice Boxes)

Since The Waste Trade Company took over the waste contract at Parmalat, our Director, Mr Bulkin walked the extra mile to find a company who can do the recycling of Tetrapak. Working together with RE, the manufacturers of tetrapak, we have found a Mill that is prepared to pulp and re-process the milk and juice boxes for us.
