The Department of Economic Development and Environmental Affairs (DEDEA) and the Institute of Waste Management of South Africa (IWMSA) recently awarded Goodyear South Africa with the Top Green Award for large companies with a medium environmental impact. They were also recognized at the 2010 Nelson Mandela Bay Business Chamber's banquet for their outstanding efforts in running 'green' operations.

The Waste Trade Company has played an enormous role and is part and parcel of Goodyear South Africa's success story.  By implementing the recycling initiatives set out by The Waste Trade Company since 2009, Goodyear SA has experienced a reduction of 85% of its non-recyclable waste, now recycles water from its boiler house, collects and re-uses water run-off and sends zero waste to landfill.  One of TWTC's special projects included the creation & maintenance of a flourishing vegetable garden as well as vermiculture on site.
