HISTORY
The Waste Trade Company (PTY) LTD was established in 1998 in the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro by a man who saw the opportunity to transform other people's waste into opportunities and revenue. His love of nature and passion to make a difference was the driving force behind building a Company which would not only benefit him, but would also be the vehicle to transform and develop the lives of his employees. Since 1998, Howard Bulkin & his team continues to successfully grow & develop The Waste Trade Company, which has become the home of 102 permanent employees and 43 cusual staff members.

ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS

The Waste Trade Company is aware and committed to our environmental, safety and social responsibilities.  Legislation and compliance are driving forces in waste management and thus our ISO  14001 accreditation reflects the standards that we subscribe to.  
We are also a member of the Institute of Waste Management of South Africa (IWMSA), which keeps us in contact and up to date with new developments in the waste & recycling industry.
The Rose foundation, Nampak Recycling, Mondi Recycling, Tetrapak, Nelson Mandela Waste Exhange, Prosafe and Proudly South African are other proactive companies and campaigns with whom we are associated with to uphold and enhance the image of our Company.

ACHIEVEMENTS
The Waste Trade Companie received a certificate of achievement for Star 4 from the SETA Grading System, recognising that the Company successfully implemented health management systems that help staff to maintain a healthy work-life balance, providing them with health education and life skills training.

The Waste Trade Company was the 2nd Runner up (Large & Mid-sized organisations with a high environmental impact) to receive an awart from The Eastern Cape Top Green Organisations Awards in 2010.

SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY
We believe in giving back to the community and making a difference in the lives of others.
Our Social responsibility projects include the following:

  • The Waste Trade Company's MBSA Soccer Team: we donated sporting equipment to aid the further development and morale of the team.
  • The Waste Trade Company purchased a vehicle for the Salvation Army for the collection of recyclables, which would provide them with a sustainable income.
  • The Schools Project is one of our biggest social responsibility projects where we educate children about the importance of recycling. Please see our Schools Project page for more information.
